Newfoundland's Grand Banks Message Board

I am looking for any information on Michael (b:1863) and Elizabeth (b:1867) (Crooke) Pendergast. They were both born in Newfoundland, came to the US in 1892.
Also looking for any information on Thomas Pendergast and Bridget Doyle (parents of Michael) and Elizabeth Powers (mother of Elizabeth).
I cannot find anything on my family?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Do a a search on this website for the name and look around the Quidi Vidi and White Hills area of St. John's.

The 1911 census below is for the widow and family of Garret Pendergast who married Elizabeth Jane Martin at the Congregational Church in 1866. Garret was born circa 1840 and he had a brother Thomas. The will for Garrett is also posted on this website.
Garret and Thomas had sisters Frances and Sarah.

Your names hint of Catholic ties. Some members of the families in the Quidi Vidi and White Hills areas did convert occasionally and then moved to the US. Check the Basilica records also on this website.

I am researching the Croke's and have the following information on the Pendergast's which I hope will help in your research.

Michael Pendergast & Elizabeth Croke were married on 08 Nov 1883 at the Roman Catholic Cathedral by Rev. Forristall. The marriage notice appeared in The Gazette, Newfoundlander and the Times on November 20, 1883.

They had the following children born in St John's:
Thomas Pendergast, b. 29 Nov 1883, bapt. 03 Dec 1883.
Elizabeth Mary Pendergast, b. 20 Sep 1884, bapt. 24 Sep 1884.
Bridget Pendergast, b. 12 Apr 1886, bapt. 14 Apr 1886.
Mary Ann Pendergast, b. 18 Jun 1887, bapt. 22 June 1887.

The children were all baptized at RC. Basilica, St. John's.

The marriage and baptism records are available at the Family History Society of Newfoundland & Labrador.

Note: CROKE was spelt CROAKE in the registers.

Came accross a refrence to a Edward Pendergast (Able Seaman), aged 24 of St. John's on board the ship Clara travelling from the port of Onehunga, New Zealand to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 4 Sept 1865. The Clara had previously arrived in Onehunga, New Zealand on 30 June 1864, after leaving St. John's on 24 Dec 1864. Hope this is of some use to someone - Sarah.
