I am trying to research the Thorne's of Lower Island Cove. John Thorn married Ann Willar on
September 04, 1831 at Lower Island Cove. I am trying to find out who Ann Willar was and where she came from. She was born around 1812 and John Thorn was born about 1804. There were no Thorne's in Lower Island Cove before the record of their marriage. Willar could be Wheeler as there were Wheeler's in Lower Island Cove before their marriage.Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

WILLER/DIMOND John Willer, (I), of LIC, married Sarah Dimond, (I), of LIC, at LIC, Nov. 20, 1833.

Witnesses: Joseph Robins, Rachel Rogers (I), James Coppelstone, Edward Lewis (I).(A20)

And

THORN/WILLER John Thorn, (I), of LIC, married Ann Willer, (I), of LIC, at LIC,

Sept. 4, 1831. Witnesses: John Willar and Edward Lewis.

I found the following on Rootsweb World Connect Site;

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin ... 3284483318

It shows a John Wheeler b. 1807 of Lower Island Cove , son of Edward Wheeler b.1778 and Clara Johnson, married to Sarah Diamond .

There is a GOOD CHANCE that John and Ann are brother and sister and are the children of Edward and Clara (Johnson) Wheeler. Both Ann wheeler/Willar and John Wheeler/Willar had Edward Lewis as a withess at their weddings. And John Willar was a witness to Ann at her wedding to John Thorne.

Does anyone know if there is anywhere I can confirm the following;

(a) That Ann Willar/Wheeler and John Willar/Wheeler are brother and sister?

(b) That Ann and John Willar/Wheeler are children of Edward and Clara (Johnson) Wheeler?

Reasons for this: (1) Ann Willar/Wheeler had a John Willar/Wheeler and Edward Lewis witness her Wedding.

(2) John Willar/Wheeler had Edward Lewis witness his wedding to Sarah Diamond.

It seems that Edward Lewis is the common denominator to both these people.Which leads me to believe they are brother and sister.

Is there anyone who can tell me if this is correct or where I can get confirmation?

Hi,

The HISTORY OF THE WHEELER FAMILY IN AMERICA compiled by the American College of
Genealogy under the direction of Albert Gallatin Wheeler Jr, Boston MA 1914, Call Number
929.2 W563. On pages 642 and 643 it states (summary here)
Edward Wheeler of Lower Island Cove married Clara Johnson and had
(1) John born circa 1807
(2) Grace - married John Day
(3) Mary - married William Bursey (my gg-gparents)
(4) Edward - married a Morris
(5) Ann - married Robert Bursey
(6) George - married Susan Rogers

I have a bit more information from these 2 pages if you want it.

Jill Marshall, St Johns

Thank you very much. I appreciate all the help/information you can give me on the Wheelers. As you can see my Great Great Grandmonther is Ann Willar/Wheeler who married John Thorne in 1831, The witnesses at their wedding were John Wheeler and Edward Lewis.

John Wheeler married Sarah Diamond in 1833 and had Edward Lewis as one of the witnesses at their wedding.Edward Lewis seems to have been a good friend to both John and Ann to have witnessed both Weddings. I'm thinking that Ann and John Wheeler are related somehow, maybe Brother and sister. Have you found anywhere a family of Wheelers with a John and Ann in there other than Edward and Clara Wheelers family.

My GGGrandmother was born about 1812 as she died in Whales Brook Trinity Bay in 1892 at age 80yrs.

Was there another Wheeler family in Lower Island Cove around that time with a John and Ann?
I am desperate to solve this mystery.

Thanks
Len
