Hello, My dad is trying to find out information about his father Edward Aloysius Hayes. We know that Edward was stationed in the UK during the war and married Kathleen Jezzard in 1942. From their marriage certificate Edward was a Gunman #971165 in the Royal (Newfoundland) Artillery and a stevedore from Corner Brook, Bay of Islands. He was 28 in November 1942 so born in 1914 or 1915. His father was John Hayes, a foreman in the paper mill. My dad was born in 1943 and his sister two years later. We believe Edward returned to Newfoundland soon after this and a divorce was registered in 1951. We found two adjacent Hayes families in the Corner Brook 1935 census, but Edward is one house and a father named John Hayes is in the other. We would be very grateful if anyone has further information. |
