Looking for information on ROBERTS' from Little Bay Islands. William ROBERTS (Son of William ROBERTS and Martha JONES)married Eva ??? (from Ward's Harbour). They had 3 daughters, Flossie, Edith & Ruby. Sometime Circa 1923 William died, (possibly killed in the lumberwoods?). Eva could not afford to feed the 3 girls so she gave them up to the Grenfell Orphanage. Williams brother Samuel George was married to Nellie ROBERTS. Nellie died in childbirth around 1916-1917. Samuel & Nellie had 2 sons, Walter George and Ruben John. Circa 1926 Samuel & Eva married. They had Alma Maude, Marjorie Ruth, Hubert William, Calvin Ford and Georgina Pearl. Any information on what happened to William would be greatly appreciated. Also, who was Eva?? (Maiden name - Parents names) would be greatly appreciated. Any additional information you are wiling to share would be greatly appreciated,(smile). I have information I can share if you want it.

Hi Terry
I don't know Eva's maiden name, but here is the marriage to Samuel. It was in the Salvation Army parish records at the Archives here in St Johns.
May 29 1928 Samuel ROBERTS, wid, 34, fish, Sullians Cove, Sa & Eva ROBERTS, wid, 29, Sullians Cove, Sa. At Little Bay Island (SA). WIT: Lawrance Hill, Ida Hill. SA Marr Box 7
One thing that bugs me is the baptism of FLossie; her father is not named as William but as Willis George, and there was a William George b May 9 1888, son of George Roberts & Mary Jane Penney:
Willis George & Eva ROBERTS, Port Anson, Long Island United Church parish records Emma Flossie Reta ROBERTS b Mar 8 1920 Pt Anson, bap May 20 1920

Sorry, I meant to say there was a "Willis" George. But his DOB does not match the June 1890 DOB given to William Roberts in the Census. I do not have a baptism for a William to william & Martha (Jones) Roberts. do you? Jill

Thanks Jill for the information!
Sorry, no I also do not have a baptism for William. I talking to Gary Newell of the Grenfell Historical Society in St. Anthony but he said the records are not available to the public and he couldn't help me.
Thanks agin! Terry

Hi Terry:
Does this one jive with your thinking ?
"Walter William ROBERTS, s/o William & Martha b. Aug 24 1893, Sulians Cove, ME, fisherman, bapt. May 3 1894."
Also, George Jones and Lydia Moors (daughter of James Moors and Elizabeth White) were the first Jones family at Little Bay Islands, I believe. They relocated there from Little Harbour, Twillingate. George Jones and Lydia Moors had four sons that I have identified: James Jones, William Jones, Thomas Jones, and John Jones. George Jones and Lydia Moors also had several daughters, including a daughter, Martha Jones, born August 29, 1847. I would consider George Jones and Lydia Moors to be the grandparents of the younger Martha Jones that you referenced. The younger Martha Jones was likely a daughter of James Jones, William Jones, Thomas Jones, or John Jones - take your pick !
