On November 5, 1876 Daniel Lane of Tilton Harbour married Margaret Duff of Freshwater (Road) area - at the RC Basilica in St John’s. I would sure appreciate any ancestral information on either of the two but especially Daniel whose parentage has proven almost impossible to pin down. Thanks, in advance, for any help.

Hi:

I can't help with your Daniel Lane but I do have some information on later Daniel's and was wondering if they are connected. The earliest person I have is Michael Joseph Lane, born 20 June 1886, Lime Kiln Hill, St. John's, married 1909 Ethel Noseworthy. They had a son, Daniel Patrick Lane, born 1911.

I am looking for Michael's ancestry.

There is a book written by John Carrick Greene (originally from Tilting) named "Of Fish And Family". The Lane family is one of the families he has researched in this book.
According to this book Daniel Lane born 1849 married Margaret Duff, and Daniel is the son of Cornelius Lane and Rachel Horton. There is other information on the Lane family but I am not sure about copy rights, etc. regarding publishing this information without permission.
I think you would find this book very helpful.

Alice, any idea where one could purchase a copy of this book? Besides the Daniel Lane Family, I am trying to trace my husband's Fogo roots. His father was Captain Jack Willis of Fogo, and thus is related to a great many of the other Island families.

Trishe,
I'm not sure where to get a copy right now. Mine was a gift. I will check and try to find out a source for you. If I find anything I will post it here.
