I am trying to find information on Olivia Lilly of Carbonear , who died on May 11. 1838 at age 78 yrs, Which means she was born abt. 1760. I am trying to confirm if she was a PIKE who married Samuel Lilly of Carbonear. There is an indication on the internet that she was left land by her father John Pike (Merchant) who died in 1788 at Carbonear. If this is correct then A) Who is John Pike B)Who was his wife C) Where did they come from etc??? Any help appreciated.

While I don't have a record for an Olivia Pike, it is possible that she is the daughter of Captain John Pike and his wife Elizabeth of Poole. They had 2 children Samuel Pike and Susanna Green Pike baptised in Harbour Grace in 1780. It is quite possible they had earlier children that are not in the parish records.
The reason I guess this is because John Pike's parents were John Pike and his wife OLIVE of Poole. They died 1775 and 1774 respectively in Poole.
It is also possible that Olivia was a Pack, another merchant of Poole. There are a few instances of the name "Olivia" in the Pack family and it's not impossible they were connected to other wealthy families like the Lilly's.
I have Olivia Lilly, wife of Samuel Lilly, as having been born 1766 and died May 11 1838 in Carbonear.

The following;The following found on the internet under "Pike family tidbits"
I'm told that in the records from the Lands and Deeds division at the Confederation Building there is mention of a John Pike (Merchant) who died in 1788 and left land to his children at Carbonear 1)Francis Pike and 2)Olivia Lilly (widow of Samuel). In 1826 Dr Patrick Molloy obtained the land from the above. The source for the above information should be found in a MOLLOY transaction. I'm also told that Patrick's wife was Catherine Pike of Carbonear
I found the following Bethany UC Cemetary Carbonear, Lilly Samuel died 17 Nov 1806 age 41 [baptised 22 Sept 1765, Salem, Mass; son of William & Patience Lilly; wife's name Olivia; Olivia died Carbonear 11 May 1838 78] .
The above would indicate that 1. John Pike had land in Carbonear. 2. He was a merchant. 3. He had at least TWO children,Francis and Olivia. 4. Olivia was married to Samuel Lilly .
I have found the following for Carbonear;
John and Ann Pike had the following children;
Mary b. Oct 13th, 1776
John b. May 8th, 1779
Catherine b. Oct. 28th, 1781
Francis b.Dec. 4th, 1783
That is the only Francis Pike I can find, I don't know if Olivia is connected to THIS PIKE family or not?? I wonder if Catherine is the same one who is connected to the above Dr. Patrick Molloy? If Catherine and Francis are the ones mentioned in the above Molloy land transaction then it stands to reason that Olivia must be of John and Ann Pike?
Any help on this is appreciated.

Len, here are my thoughts which may assist you.....but do your own due diligence, of course.
Samuel Lilly's father - focus on William Lilly, who spent some time in the USA, and eventually emigrated to Harbour Grace, and served as a magistrate in that town. Samuel Lilly may have had brothers: William Lilly Jr., who was married to Patience, and who died in June 1809, at the age of 48 years; and George Lilly, who married Mary Ann Roberts, and who became a lawyer and a judge at St. John's.
Olivia (Olive) Lilly's parents - focus on John Pike and Elizabeth Green. John Pike was the son of John and Olive Pike, and was a merchant attached to "Pike and Green" at Carbonear.
The following notice appeared in the 'Star and Conception Bay Journal' Newspaper, dated Wednesday, May 16, 1838: "Died at Carbonear on the 11th. inst., Olivia Lilly, relict of the late Mr. Samuel Lilly, aged 72 years."

Len,
The senior William Lilly, Esquire, (Magistrate at Harbour Grace) was married to Patience, who died on January 31, 1797, at the age of 58 years. They had more children than I initially listed.
These are some of the children that I would consider:
William Lilly Jr., who married Patience Parsons. George Lilly, Lawyer, Judge, who married Mary Ann Roberts. Samuel Lilly, who married Olivia Pike. Henry Lilly. Joseph Lilly, who married Sarah Cole. John Lilly, who married Martha Cummins. Ann Larn Lilly. And possibly others.

Len, I had an opportunity recently to peruse mutiple documents at the Registry of Deeds, and I am able to confirm the following:
In a document dated in the year 1826, Olivia Lilly, widow, of Carbonear; Francis Pike of Carbonear; and other children; are confirmed to be children of John Pike, late of Carbonear, Merchant. John Pike "departed this life in or about the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight....".
In a document dated in the year 1834, there is mention of Olivia Lilly, widow, of Carbonear.
In a document dated in the year 1835, Olivia Lilly is confirmed as being the widow of Samuel Lilly.
Information contained in another document confirmed that William Lilly (Jr.) married Patience Parsons, daughter of William Parsons. Patience had a sister, Elizabeth Parsons, who married Lionel Chancey.

MORE INFO ON PIKE
Found in a will dated June 1, 1835 , of Francis Pike Carbonear Island, the following;
Francis and Jane Pike had the following children listed in 1835, they may have had more children that didn't survive and therefore not listed in the will;
Francis and Jane Pike
1. Julia married to Pike 2. Ann " " Forward 3. Catherine " " Molloy 4. Mary " " Gosse 5. Jane " " Williams 6. Elizabeth " " Francis Taylor 7. Edward 8. Francis
In a letter found at NL Archives titled CLAUDIUS WATTS' LETTER ON THE PIKE FAMILY TO NATHANIEL PIKE it reveals that Francis Pike sr. had another son John who died at about 30 yrs of age, which explains why he is not mentioned in the will. This letter of Cladius Watts written about late 1800's also states that Francis Pike senior was a brother to William Pike, Claudius Watts grandfather, and another Pike of Mosquito. They also had a sister Catherine who married William Taylor sr. and maybe others.
This clears up just who Catherine Molloy was. But doesn't clear up the connection with the land transaction of Pike and Molloy.
