Does anyone know who the parents were of Mary Ann Layman born 1830, Gull Island, NL, died September 1893 and married Samuel Stockwood on December 8, 1865. I have a fair bit of information on Layman's (Laymond) of Gull Island but I haven't been successful in linking Mary Ann to either of the families.
Also there was a Mary Ann Stockwood born Gull Island, February 26, 1857, to John Stockwood and Mary Ann Penney. I found a birth record for a John Murphy, born February 11, 1886, son of William Murphy, Job's Cove and Mary Stockwood. Wondering if this Mary Stockwood is the Mary Ann mentioned above.
Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Mary Ann Layman was born 10 May 1844, the daughter of John Layman (1815-1892) and Fanny Holloway who were married on 12 August 1838 at Lower Island Cove. John Layman was the son of Gregory Layman (1764-1853) and his wife Ann (1780-1858). Gregory may have come from Chagford, Devon, England.
Samuel Stockwood was born 12 May 1843, the son of John Stockwood and Mary Ann Penney (1812-1874). Legend has it that John Stockwood ran away from a British navy vessel and the Doyle family of Gull Island hid him in a root cellar until the vessel departed.
