Newfoundland's Grand Banks Message Board

James Ryan was listed among the earlier settlers of Port Saunders in the 1880's. In later Census, he gave his birthplace as "Turks Gut" which is in the bottom of Conception Bay. I am trying to determine what circumstances brought him to Port Saunders. There is a local story that indicates that he was shipwrecked in nearby (to Port Saunders) King's Cove. I have been unable to substantiate this story. any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
