I need help trying to trace the missing link of our Button family in Newfoundland. William Button, first wife Caroline (second wife Jane (Trimm) Button {Jane's first husband was a Palmer}. They lived in Seal Cove. William and Caroline had two girls, Jane, born 1852 and Julia, born 1854. William and his second wife Jane (Trimm) Button, had William Henry Button, born 1862. William Henry Button married Elizabeth (George). What we don't know about our family is where did William Button come from. He just seems to show up in Seal Cove Newfoundland in the mid 1800's. We also don't have a marriage certificate or any specific marriage info on William and Caroline. Any thoughts or information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Scott William Button, New Hampshire, USA

Seal Cove is now New Chelsea in Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. The surname Trimm and Palmer are surnames of New Chelsea. The surname Button is also Trinity Bay surname, Lead Cove and Old Perlican , just a short distance from New Chelsea. Trimm and Palmer are surnames that fished in the Forteau area of Labrador also and returned to New Chelsea. You may find info in the Trinity Bay and Labrador Anglican and United(Methodist) churches for those areas.
Hope this helps Len

Hope this helps Len Here is a birth I found in the Vital Statistics Trinity Bay ~ Trinity South District Old Perlican Baptism Records 1817 - 1900 Baptised in 1833 William Henry to Henry & Elizabeth BUTTON at Old Perlican . Old Perlican is approx 8 to 10 miles from New Chelsea in Trinity Bay. There was no Birth Date and no Baptism Date other than the year 1833. There were Buttons all along that shore in that time period. Hope this helps Len

Len,
Thank you so much for that information. This may be a possible connection with my family. Is there a way to find out who "this" William Henry Button married and who his children were? The records we know about begin listing William Button's children with a Caroline Button (first wife), children were Jane Button 1852 and Julia Ann 1854. Then William Button married his second wife, Jane (Trim) who's first husband was John Palmer. William and Jane Button had William Henry Button in 1862 and he died in 1922. Family records have William Henry Button marrying Elizabeth George in Jan. 1886. They had the following children, Elihu W., Abner, Alfred T., Caleb, Arthur, Annie, Ella, Ida, Lilly May, Archibald, Effie, Julia, Alpheus.
Thanks again,
Scott Button (great, great grandchild of William Button)

Hope this helps Len [/quote] Yes there is a way of finding out, You would need to see the Marriage and birth records for Methodist (United) Church for Trinity Bay for sure. Hants Harbour and Old perlican both had Methodist Church Parishes. The records can be found at the Provincial Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador located at the ROOMS, Fort Townshend, St. John's, NL. You can GOOGLE this and get the particulars. http://www.therooms.ca/archives/This is the link to the Archives. Hope it is of some help. Len
