Post subject:  Vincent family from Indian Islands

Hello,
I am trying to find more information on my husband's 2nd Great Grandmother.
Name - Lily Rebecca Vincent (Married name Burden).
Born- 1880 Indian Islands, NL.
Died - 20 Feb 1914, Gander Bay, NL
Buried - Clarke's Head, Gander Bay, NL. Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery.
Married - 15 July 1900 on Indian Islands married Arthur William Burden (1879-1958) A Maria Vincent was listed as a witness on their marriage record. Arthur remarried 1915, Gander Bay.
Children - Stella Pearl Burden (Born between 1908-1911 Notre Dame Bay),
Dorothy Burden (Born between 1905-1912 Indian Bay)
Blanche Burden (no record)

I have found a marriage record and death record for her under the Fogo District records, but have been unable to find her birth records, or anything that distinctly points to her parents or siblings.
I have found one family of Vincent's on Indian Island from the 1935, and 1945 census. The ages line up that the head of the family (Mark Vincent) could possibly be her brother. The following is the information found on that family:

1935 Census - Indian Islands, NL
Head - Mark Vincent (48)
Wife - Emily Vincent (48) Maiden name Gillingham
Daughter - Netta (23)
Son - Lemuel (17)
Daughter - Hilda (13)
Son - Douglas (7)

Mark & Emily were married 5 June 1911 Indian Islands.
Mark was born on 22 March 1887 Indian Islands to Jonathan & Mary Vincent

It would be amazing if anyone happened to have any further information on that family, and if Lily was related to them.

Kindest regards from the west coast,

Amy

ok. Amy your Lily Rebecca Vincent was bapt. July 18,1880 daughter of Jonathon and Mary Anne Vincent. She is in this web site but her name shows Vinson sic. I also think that Mary Maria Vincent is her sister born 1875 .

Thank you so much for that information Doug! I will take another look with that name difference, and for more info on Mary Maria with that birth date.

I have been busy yesterday and today scouring Ancestry and this site. I have found Jonathan and Mary Vincent as parents listed for 8 different children. I have no idea if it is the same couple for all of them, or if there are just multiple couples with the same names. If the marriage and birth information I have for the parents are correct Jonathan and Mary had their children over a span of about 30 years.

Any chance you could give me an idea if the following information is for the correct family?

- Marriage 9 Nov 1855 between Jonathan Vincent & Mary Mellandy. Residing at Cape Island.
- Birth of Jonathan Vincent 30 July 1831, Cape Island to John & Honor Vincent.
- Birth of Mary Milandy (Mellandy?) 11 Feb 1836, Cape Island to Thomas & Julia Milandy.

Children with Jonathan & Mary A. Vincent listed as parents:
- James Samuel Vincent. Born on Indian Islands. Baptized 10 Aug 1871
- Clara Louisa Vincent. Born on Indian Islands. Baptized 28 May 1873

Children with Jonathan & Mary Vincent listed as parents:
- Ebenezer Vincent. Born on Cape Island. Baptized 8 June 1858
- Lydia Vincent. Born 22 Mar 1867, Cape Island. Baptized 28 Apr 1867
- Olivia Vincent. Born Mar 1872, Poole Island, Fogo District. Baptized 16 Apr 1872
- Samuel F. Vincent. Born 11 Mar 1874, Indian Islands. Baptized 4 May 1874
- Julia L. Vincent. Born 8 Feb 1874, Cape Island. (Birth is too close to Samuel to be siblings)
- Mark Vincent. Born 22 Mar 1887, Indian Island. Baptized 19 July 1887

Thank you so much for your time! It is very much appreciated. My Husband's Grandmother is the Granddaughter of Lily Rebecca. They always thought Lily was the sister of Arthur's second wife Hannah Jane Squire. They were shocked when I told them I've been discovering a totally different story.
