I am trying to help a friend trace her ancestry. I have gotten her back to Rev Edward and Sarah Colley but I am struggling to put the pieces together. I have no idea Sarah's maiden name nor the birthdates and places and full names of their children. Any help would be appreciated! Brenda |

Since I posted this I was able to find that Edward Colley married Sarah Cartwright on 29 Aug 1850 in Harbour Breton, Fortune Bay, New Foundland. I believe he was born in England about 1830. He was a minister in Topsail at one time I was told. Thanks! |

Edward Colley b 1825 Bridgenorth, Shropshire, England, Clerk Holy Orders, married Sarah Cartwright at Church of England parish Harbour Breton, NL. by J.G. Mountain 25 August 1850. Witnesses: George Addington, Susan Ellis. Children from that union were: Edward Edwards b 2 July 1851 at Grole, Hermitage Bay, NL Benjamin William b 8 Dec. 1852, Grole Jane Elizabeth b 30 Dec. 1854, Grole Sara Helena b 28 Nov. 1856, Hermitage Cove, NL Francis Worthington b 11 Feb. 1860, Hermitage Cove Jacob George Thomas b 6 Jan. 1862, Hermitage Reginald Richard b 13 Sept. 1863, Hermitage Gertrude Martha Dallow b 18 Jan. 1865, Hermitage Mary Ann Decima bpt 27 Oct. 1867, Hermitage Fanny Sophia bpt 25 Sept. 1870, Hermitage Rev. Edward Colley died 28 Dec. 1904 at Topsail, NL aged 79 years. |

Some further info on the Colley family: Rev. Edward Colley moved to Topsail late 1877 or early 1878. He is buried at St. John the Evangelist Church Cemetery, Topsail. Near by is the grave of his son Canon Francis Worthington Colley 1860 - 25 June 1918 also near by is the grave of his daughter Sarah Helena (Colley) Weeden 1856 - 3 Dec 1885 |

Sorry I have no information on Sarah Cartwright. You may wish to look on www.familysearch.org It is a free site and very useful. There is information there concerning Edward and Sarah's children and their spouses. |

Some info on the children of Edward and Sarah Colley. 16 May 1879 Benjamin William Colley, bachelor 26 yrs married Eleanor Elizabeth James, spinster at St. Pierre by Josiah Darrell. Both parties were resident of St. Pierre. Witnesses : Lizzie Hough and George W. James. 4 August 1886 Reginald Richard Colley bachelor married Jessie A. Tate spinster at Guysboro, N.S. Jessie b 1862,at died 14 Dec. 1899 at Rockport, Essex, Mass. 8 Feb. 1901 Reginald married at Rockport, Olina Peterson born 29 June 1874 Portland, Cumberland, Maine. Reginald died 30 Oct. 1936 at Rockport. Olina Peterson died 30 June 1959 15 Sept. 1887 Gertrude Martha Dallow Colley spinster 22 yrs of Topsail, NL married Edwin Davis bachelor, 36 yrs Clerk Holy Orders of Halifax, England. Married at Topsail by Bishop Llewellyn Jones. Witnesses: Edward Colley and Bessie Weedon. 23 April 1891 Jane Elizabeth Colley spinster 36 yrs of Topsail married Henry Elrington bachelor 30 yrs resident of Random, NL. Married at Topsail by Bishop Llewellyn Jones. Witnesses: Gertrude S. Weedon and Edward Colley. 7 Jan. 1897 Fanny Sophia Colley spinster of Topsail, 26 yrs married Charles Augustus Maxwell Pinsent bachelor, 30 yrs of St. John's, NL, Merchant. Married at Topsail by Bishop Llewellyn Jones. Witnesses: Edward Colley and Francis W. H. Pinsent 3 June 1897 Francis Worthington Colley bachelor 37 yrs Clerk Holy Orders resident of Carbonear, NL married Diana Enid James spinster 22 yrs of Heart's Content, NL. Married at Heart's Content, NL by Canon Colley. Witnesses: J. D. James and Mary D. Colley 1901 Census England Edward Edwards Colley 39 yrs and his wife Emily 37 yrs reside at Lewisham, London, England along with children Frederick K. Colley 2 yrs and Gertrude H. D. Colley 9 yrs.
