I am searching for the parents and siblings of Francis Luff, born 1829, died 1902 in Exploits, married Lavinia Sceviour (b. 29 Sep 1827). Their son George ( b. 1860) is the father of my grandfather, Edwin Abel Luff ( b. 1890). Thank you.

Hi Lea:
Francis Luff was probably a son of either John Luff or George Luff of Exploits - take your pick !
"John Luff registered a claim, dated in 1810, on a 'fishing room' at Exploits Burnt Island".
"George Luff registered a claim, dated in 1815, on a 'fishing room' at Exploits Burnt Island".
The households of John Luff and George Luff are included in the 1836 census report for Exploits.
Do your own due diligence, please.

Hi, the 1836 Census, Exploits Burnt Island lists: THOMAS LUFF: 3 males under 14, 1 male 14-60, 1 female under 14, 2 females 14-60 GEORGE LUFF: 1 male 14-60, 1 female 14-60
As you can tell, George Luff has no children listed in 1836, so Francis born 1829 can't be his son. Therefore I believe Francis must have been the son of Thomas; Francis was likely the brother of Eleanor Luff who married 1850 to Francis Curtis, and to Ann Luff (who married John Purchase & named one of her sons "Francis Luff Purchase"

Hi Jill:
Are you showing a Thomas Luff in the 1836 census for Exploits ?
It is the first time I have seen a reference to an early Thomas Luff at Exploits. Was there a Thomas Luff resident there during the early 1800's ?
I have a photocopy of the handwritten 1836 census report for Exploits. It shows two Luff households at Exploits - John Luff and George Luff.
I also have a copy of a typewritten 1836 census report for Exploits that was prepared by another transcriber. It also shows two Luff households at Exploits - John Luff and George Luff.
"John Luff Planter Yes 3 1 0 1 2 0"
"George Luff Planter Yes 0 1 0 0 1 0"
Take care.
Milt

Hi I think I have mistaken "Jno" for "Thos" in the handwritten. Sorry Jill
