Post subject:  William Harty broad Cove 1800

There is a story concerning the James Leo Harty House in Broad Cove that states that the founder of Broad Cove, aka Duntara, was first settled by his great grandfather, William Harty. Looking at James Leo Harty direct family line, he is a descendant of Michael Harty and Mary Keough, which would make William Harty, if this is a true story, the father of Michael Harty. Michael Harty was married to Mary Keough in Broad Cove in 1830 so the time line works for the story. Michael Harty's records state he is from Lismore, Irleland, but if William Harty is his father then he must actually be Newfoundland born in Broad Cove and perhaps William Harty, "his Father", must have been from Lismore, Ireland. I can't find any records of this William Harty coming to Broad Cove in the late 1700s or early 1800s and yet the story is there.

Looking at the Basilica marriage records. A Thomas Harty, in St Johns from Lismore Ireland married, I think in 1803. Could he be related to this William Harty who was working on a boat in King Cove, got off it and walked to Broad Cove and decided to settle there? How many Harty familes could came from Lismore Ireland at that same time period? Any ideas or information about this will be appreciated.
