Newfoundland's Grand Banks Message Board

I am researching the origins of the Penney family who lived in Blow Me Down, a small community between Freshwater and Salmon Cove , Conception Bay which was abandoned in the 1940's. My grandfather was John Robert Penney b. 1890 married Clara Jane Howell of Carbonear. I believe my ggrandfather was named James and married Moira (Mariah?) (Mary Jane?) Butt both of Blow Me Down but not certain.

John Robert had a brother Nicholas who was killed in the mines on Bell Island and 2 sisters, Sarah (married Isaac Belbin of New Chelsea) and Abigail (married ? Moores of Freshwater).

I have no idea where the family originated from prior to this. If anyone could help extend my information on the family, I would appreciate hearing from you.
