Post subject:  PENNEY,Wm. 1850

My husband's great grandfather was William Penney b. abt 1850 (Salmon Cove?) and married Anastasia Curran b. 1858 (married 11-27-1880). they had John Thomas b. abt July 1881, Catherine Joseph b. Jan 1883, Joseph b. November 1884, Mary Theresa b. abt, 1886, Margaret Frances b. abt. 1888, Wm Thomas b. 1891, Bernard b, July 1893, Bridget b. February 20-1896 (my husband's grandmother who married Michael Cyril Buck) and Michael b. June 1899. I have not been able to go beyond William to find his parents. I have his death date as 8-8-1902 in Avondale. Is anyone related to any of these Penney family members? I do know Bernard ended up in Lynn, Ma. and Bridget ended up in Philadelphia, PA. Also looking for Curran connections

The Salmon Cove you are referencing is currently Avondale, the community was renamed about 1900 to distinguish it from the other Salmon Cove in Conception Bay. Your William is likely a relative to my great-great grandfather William Penney b 1871 to Joseph Penney and Mary Ann Mason of Avondale. He's either an uncle or a cousin. Unfortunately there are no parish records for the area before the late 1850's to sort that out. I've looked at that family a number of times trying to work out a relationship to no avail.

On the Curran surname, the parish records for Harbour Main pretty consistently show the name as Conran.
