Looking for information about Captain Henry Roper of Catalina who died 1868.
Wanting to discover if he is the son of John Roper of Gosport Hampshire and brother to Eliza Roper. Henry Roper son of John was born 1820 in Alverstoke Hampshire. Please connect if you have any information.

I don't know if this is of any relevance by I have a "Captain Roper" who was the captain of the Brigintine "Clara" which sailed from St. John's, Newfoundland on 24 December 1864 bound for New Zealand. The ship was purchased by a consortium of Robert Pearce, William and Elizabeth Foote, and carried their familes (Pearce, Foote, Gibbons, Ferguson) and supposedly my Newfoundland relatives (Brace & Angell) to NZ. When the ship arrived in New Zealand in June 1865 it was sold off and I have no idea if this Captain Roper ever made it back to Newfoundland. Just checked my info and the Captain of the Clara was indeed a Captain Henry Roper. Unfortunatly the Australian passenger list I have (the Clara stopped in Australia on it's way to NZ) has only partial details and Captain Roper's age is omitted. I know the Clara was sold in New Zealand in 1865, which means he didin't return to Newfoundland by that ship. But that woudl still give him time to return from New Zealand. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
