[bI am looking for some information for a friend who in not actively into genealogy. However, she is trying to find her great aunt or somebody who can give her some information about this lady. Her name is Matilda Louisa Rees from Lance Cove, Bell Island. Matilda had at least one sister, Mary Beatrice who married Duncan Hunt from Hr. Grace. Mary [u]Beatrice[ named one of her daughters Matilda (my friend's mother) for her sister /u]][/b]

Any information on this person or that family in general would be greatly appreciated.

This is from the 1935 New Foundland Census....is this the family you are looking for?
Will keep looking for any other decendants ets. hope this helps..As you mentioned it looks like Mary Beatrice named one of her daughters after her sister. And she had many other sons and daughters to check on their lives as well. Still looking for info on Matilda Louisa Rees.

This is a marriage in where Matilda Louisa Rees was one of the witnesses...whether the Groom

Thank you so much. Yes, this is the family. In fact, today we visited the cemetery in Lance Cove, Bell Island - first time there - and found many
Rees graves but nothing for Matilda Louisa. She may have a different name if she married. Perhaps she moved away. If you find anything else, it would be much appreciated.

I am beginning to think you may be right about them moving off island....so far I cannot
find anything more about them after the 1935 census....but will keep looking. Glad you are able to be there and look in person and enjoy NFLD.....I myself have not been able to go to
research my own family there....Moores and Davis families are mine.
Maybe you can find out some info by talking with the people there...hope so.

Hi Rees and Hiscock researchers this is not my branch but I collect info on families from Bell Island whenever I can so I can help other researchers such as yourselves, especially when they help me, so this way I can offer assistance to them as well. So I have info in my records on Rees and Hunt. I don't know how far back you have in your search but I'll start with William Thomas Rees I show him b 16 May 1811 Bell Island d 11 May 1897 Bell Island. He married abt 1838 to Jane Sophie Hiscock b 28 Jun 1815 Bell Island d 3 Jan 1896 and I show 10 children for them. They were listed in a previous message by another researcher but the one that is missing in that list seems to be a child named Susanna b abt Feb 1855 and died 12 Sep 1856.
The child Matilda Louise Rees I had as being married to Albert Squires but I didn't have any children listed for them.
Matilda's brother William Thomas Rees b Oct 1842 Bell Island d 8 Jun 1900 Bell Island married on 8 Dec 1870 in the St John The Evangelist Church in Topsail to Drucilla Hibbs b Sep 1846 Topsail, CBS, Nfld d 9 Apr 1932 Bell Island. I show them with 11 children. One of which was Mary Beatrice Rees b 28 Feb 1881 Bell Island d 8 Mar 1965 Harbour Grace NL married abt 1903 to Duncan Lloyd Hunt b 15 Dec 1877 Harbour Grace, d 14 May 1947 Harbour Grace, NL. and I show 11 children listed for this couple.I have birth dates and some death dates for these children but I don't have any spouses or children for any of them. Now if you can't locate someone from that side of the tree to help maybe someone from the Hunt side will be able to add something interesting. So for Duncan Lloyd Hunt he was the son of John Robert Hunt and Adelaide Brown, no dates or places for this couple but I have 5 children listed for them. One of the brothers to Duncan was George Hunt b 31 Jan 1869 married 2 Dec 1892 in Harbour Grace to Susan Purcell b abt 1869 they had 5 children and one was named Suzannah Hunt b 8 Apr 1899 Harbour Grace d 26 Nov 1967. Suzannah married a Benjamin Searle and they had a son James born in 1938 Bell Island married Joan Budgell b 1937 they married on the 19 Jul 1965 Bell Island. I don't have any children listed for this couple yet but if they are still living they might be able to provide you with more information. Benjamin is related to Squires and Parsons so you might want to make contact with those surnames as well.
