Newfoundland's Grand Banks Message Board

Hi, I am from Brisbane, Australia and researching my Grand father Joseph Ephraim Chase.
He married Elizabeth Hill Winsor 8 Sep 1884.

Children Florence Mary Jane Chase b 14 Feb 1886 and Ethel Blanche Chase b 29 Mar 1890. They married Claude Noonan and Jack Bartlett respectively.

Elizabeth died 10 Oct 1898.

Joseph left St. Johns and settled in North Queensland, Australia where he was accidently killed on 26 Jun 1910.

What I am trying to ascertain is:-
1. When he left St. Johns.
2. How did he provide for his 2 daughters.
3. How did Elizabeth die.

Can anyone assist with any help or suggestions?

Joseph E. Chase may have gone to Australia due to a family connection with his
wife's family. Elizabeth Hill Winsor (1865-1898) was a daughter of Capt. Washington
Hill Winsor (1840-1882) and Harriet Chafe (1840-).

Harriet Chafe was the daughter of Jacob and Harriet (Chafe) Chafe of Petty Harbour.
Their daughter Lucretia Watt (1824-1916) immigrated to Australia in March 1852 on
the Schooner Sybil with her husband John and child. There were some Chafe cousins
who immigrated to Australia about the same time.

It is interesting to note that Herbert W. Bartlett, son of Ethel B. Chase and John W. Bartlett, married Hazel Beatrice Chafe.
