I'm looking for help locating information on my mother's side of the family. Her father was Gregory Hurley and her mother was Theresa Kennedy. Her brothers and sisters are Eileen Hurley, Muriel Hurley, Benedict Hurley (1924-2005) Loretta Patricia A Hurley (1926-1994) Mary Marion Hurley (1929-) Philomena Duggan (nee Hurley) (1936-2010).
My mother and her sisters were sent to Belvedere Orphanage when my Grandfather died. I wish I knew more but I don't any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been able to confirm that my uncles Benedict and Brendan Hurley worked in Slope #4 on Bell Island Submarine Miner November 1956. I asked my mother last night and she said she remembers this for sure. Thanks, Keven

I should have mentioned that my Grandfather Gregory Hurley worked in the mines but also used his car as a taxi to drive the fishermen home at the docks. One day while waiting in his car for the fishing boats to come in his car rolled into the ocean when we believe he fell asleep and he drowned. Date and year are not known. Thanks, Keven

The 1921 census reveals that Gregory Hurley was born circa 1897 at North River (near Bay Roberts) and his wife Theresa was born circa 1902 on Bell Island. My guess is that they married in 1920.

Gregory and Theresa married on 24 November 1920. The witnesses were: Terrence Kennedy and Mary Lahey. The Kennedys were from Lance Cove.

I obtained the census information using Newfoundland Grand Banks. The date of marriage came from www.familysearch.org.

I have been able to confirm the death of my Grandmother and her middle name, also that she kept my grandfathers name after his death. Theresa Maude Hurley passed away July 28 1947 in Bell Island Newfoundland Canada
