Mary Ellen Dinn (Abt. 1880- Abt. 1914) was daughter of John Dinn (1833-1925) and Eleanor Tobin. John was son of James Dinn and Bridget Healy. If you are researching these families I would like to hear from you.

James Dinn and Bridget Healy baptized 9 children in Witless Bay: Sarah 1832, John 1833, Mary 1836, Eleanor 1837, Alice 1839, Michael 1841, Mary Anne 1843, James 1845 and Thomas 1846. If you are researching any of these people I would like to compare notes with you.

James Dinn & Bridget Healy Marriage Info Needed
Although James Dinn and Bridget Healy baptized 8 children in Witless Bay between 1832 and 1846 I did not find their marriage in the Witless Bay Roman Catholic Records. As these records only start in 1831 this couple was likely married elsewhere and may even have other children baptized elsewhere. Suggestions please on where to look.

I have found baptisms between 1831 and 1847 for these couples from Witless bay: James Dinn & Bridget Healy, Maurice Dinn & Francis Gearin, John Dinn & Catherine Murphy, Richard Dinn & Mary Madigan, and Patrick Dinn & Margaret Carew; also Michael Dinn & Bridget Blackler of Mobile. Would like to exchange information.

Re marriage of James Dinn and Bridget Healy.

Earlier this year I transcribed the first 50 years of marriages and baptisms (1830 - 1880) for Bay Bulls/ Witless Bay RC parish. The first baptism entry for a child of this couple in that parish was Sarah baptized 16 -Sep-1832. As part of my transcription work, I also researched and associated each couple's marriage date with the baptism record of their first child recorded in that parish. However, it is possible that Sarah was actually their second child, since earlier baptisms would have been recorded at St. John's (records not transcribed - yet).

I found this transcribed marriage record in the Ferryland District (Southern Shore) RC Marriage Records, (Husbands Surname Part1 A - D) for Nov. 1830 on web page: http://ngb.chebucto.org/Parish/fer_husband1.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;"

Dinn James Wickles Bay Gle???? Bridget Not Stated Nov., 1830 Moris Dinn Frances Geran

As you can see the transcriber (the late Ray Curran) had a problem deciphering the bride's name, but I believe that it was Bridget Healy. It seems likely that this is the marriage record for James Dinn and Bridget Healy, since the witnesses recorded as Moris (sic - Maurice) Dinn and Frances Geran (etc.) are shown as the parents of a child at Witless Bay in Dec. 1833. I haven't updated the marriage record yet because I haven't had time to check the original record to verify my deduction. I will update the marriage record once I have done that.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for this information. As I live in Alberta and just had a research trip to St. John's I won't likely get back there for some time. If you get a chance to look at the original record again for the James Dinn and Bridget ? marriage, I would appreciate hearing your conclusions.
