Trying to find info on Thomas Oates(my grandfather). All I know is that he was born in Newfoundland in 1892, emigrated to the U.S. in 1920, was married to Maude and that I was told I have relatives in St. John. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Try looking around in the records for the Carbonear area. It may be that your family ties are there. Several of the Oates from Carbonear in my database ended up in Massachusetts.

I am enclosing the link to a 1914 marriage of Thomas Oates and Maud Smart. They are couple # 10 on the page. This Thomas is 51 yrs old and that doesn't match with the birthdate that you have for him. The age difference could be a transcription error.

The marrige of this couple (no ages) was also mentioned in a newspaper as follows.

"November 23, 1914 MARRIAGE Thomas OATES, Fermeuse, and Miss Maud SMART, Bell Island. "

Hello

I am wondering if you have any information on Susanna Oates. She was born in Carbonear about 1815. She was married to Joseph Rossiter on 17 November, 1835. She died in 1884.

I do not know who her parents or siblings are. I do have the children of Joseph and Susanna. I am doing this research for my Uncle.

I appreciate any information you may have. Thank you for your consideration.

Eric
