My husband's great-grandmother was Mary Ross(1866-?) from PEI.She married Joesph Drake from Sagona. We would appreciate any information. The names of some their children are:Joseph(1896),James(1888),Selena(1900),Aloysius(1906),and Evangelina(Theresa according to the 1921 census-1894). Mavis Drake

The 1921 NFLD Census has the name as Drakes and Mary was a widow, I found a Joseph Drakes in the Fortune Bay death records 28 May 1920, age 62, Sagona. In the Fortune Bay Birth/Baptism records I found Alice Mary, parents Joseph and Mary Drakes, 24 Aug 1892, Sagona, Bapt 1 May 1893 Teresa, parents Joseph and Mary Drakes, 13 Nov 1894, Sagona, Bapt 18 May 1895 Joseph, parents Joseph and Mary Drakes, 28 Feb 1897, Sagona, Bapt 30 Sept 1897 The children where baptised Roman Catholic and before 1892 the Roman Catholic Church records are just not available. The Birth/Baptism records I have available to me are from 1892-1898, Death records are from 1892-1949. Hope this is of some help.

I am also looking for John Sheppard of Miller's Passage.I know that his wife Susan was widowed on the 1921 census. He was listed on the Lovell's Business Directory for 1871 but not for 1898.It would be nice to know when Susan died,I would appreciated any assistance. https://www.familysearch.org/go to browse records/ USA, Canada and Mexico Find Newfoundland, there are two sets of records, Vital Records and Vital Statistics. Vital Records are Government records, mainly after 1892 and Vital Statistics are church records before 1892. They are all photos of the records, there is no search function, you will have to go through each page, it takes a bit of time, but after a while you get to know where things are. The Statistics are only records that the churches voluntarily supplied, some churches didn't supply anything.

I just stumbled across this old post searching for Sheppards from Miller's Passage. I have traced my wife's line back to the same John Sheppard you mention, married to Susan (Penny) who is the widow you mention from the 1921 census of Miller's Passage. I have birth records for 8 children born to them, and their marriage record, but not much else. Susan was born in Burin according to the marriage record but I have nothing at all on John's origins.
Have you perchance found anything further in the past 5 years? I would love to compare notes!
