Hi
Great site upgrades! I've been doing some research on the Lake family from Rushoon (originally from Oderin Island). Trying to find a connection to my husbands Great Grandfather. His name was Thomas Lake. Parents were believed to William & Eliza (young).
Thanks. Roxanne

The following is an update to initial message. We are looking for the parents of Thomas J. Lake. We believe that it may be William Lake and Eliza Young. William Lake or his father is believed to have moved to Newfoundland and was originally from Devon and had two other brothers who moved to Newfoundland also.
Surname Dear was changed to Deer we believe upon arrival in St. John's or prior.
Marriage information found @ the Rooms for Thomas Lake and Mary Anne Dear.
Date of Wedding: September 11th, 1904; Groom & Age: Thomas J. Lake - age 25 from St. Joseph's; Bride & Age: Mary Anne Dear - age 18 from St. Joseph's; Witnesses: Archibald Lake & Elizabeth Hayes
Religion of both: Roman Catholic; Married at: Petit Forte; Name of Priest: W.R. Doutney
Thomas Lake died May 17th, 1944 at St. John's. Mary Anne Lake died December 21st, 1960 at St. John’s.

Hi there,
My great grandmother and grandfather were lived in Rushoon for years. They were originally from St. Joseph's but were resettled to Rushoon. Their names were Magaret and William Lake.

As Thomas Lake was born 1878, we believe his parents were married around 1875. Thomas had several brothers, one would be Arch, the others we are not sure of - could be James and/or Henry and not sure who was born first, which could change the marriage date.
Where Thomas Lake's parents were married, we don't know. We think that perhaps Thomas' father, William Lake, was born around 1855 & his mother, Eliza Young, was born around same time, if not a year or two later.
