I am researching Sarah Wood of Bay Roberts, her father may be James Wood who died in Bay Roberts early 1860's. She is my gggrandmother. She was born approx. the 1820's and married William Brown on Dec 18, 1849 at Bay Roberts. She died on Mar 16, 1862 at Bay Roberts. I cannot find a date of birth for her or William Brown. Any help on the Wood or Brown genealogy would be appreciated. I cannot find any info on WOOD or WOODS in the Bay Roberts area other than a family of Wood's who moved there in late 19th to early 20th century from Burin Peninsula, I don't know if there is a connection or not. Any help appreciated.

As a result of a visit to Provincial Archives today, March 17, 2016, I found the following in the Voters Lists for Bay Roberts;

1874, 1878, 1882 years show the following;
William Woods
Philip Woods
Simon Woods
Charles Woods

1878 and 1882 show the above plus Robert of William Woods.

1855 and 1858 only show James Woods.

Then the following shows that Woods change to Hood;
There is another Voters List without a date, but wrote in ink 1889 or 1885 ? that show the following;

William Hood age 58 of James lives at Beachy Cove
Philip Hood age 55 of James Lives at Beachy Cove Fisherman
Simon Hood age 55 of James lives at Spaniards Bay Pond Fisherman
Thomas Hood age 25 of William lives at Beachy Cove Captain of Banker
Robert Hood age 31 of William lives at Beachy Cove Fisherman
Charles Hood age 28 of Philip lives at Beachy Cove Fisherman

Is there anyone who can clarify or explain this change?

If Thomas Hood was a Captain of a Banker then there should be a record somewhere.
