Hi, I am researching these from your surnames list:

Hunt- Margaret Hunt who married Valentine Meade in Nov 24 1844, and had 6 children.

Sparrow- Annie Sparrow daughter of Robert Sparrow and Ellen Martin, grandaughter of Thomas Sparrow and Lucy Walsh and farther back.

Stewart- Ellen Stewart(born 1847 in Bay De L'Eau) married James Hodder of St. Benards-Jacques Fontaine.

If you have any info on these families, please post. Thanks

I don't have anything on Ellen Stewart.

Margaret Hunt is the daughter of James Hunt and Anastasia Lambert (1799- Mar 23 1884)
her siblings would be
Barnaby Hunt 1823-1903 married Mary A Phalen
Agnes Hunt 1826-1900 married Jeremiah Sparrow
Anastasia Hunt 1832-1902 married James Fanning
Andrew Hunt 1835-1911 married Rosannah Green
Ellen Hunt 1838-? married Nicholas Fennessey
Patrick Hunt 1842-?

There may be more that I don't know about. I have more info on their children if you're looking for specific ones.

Your Thomas Sparrrow is likely related to my Sparrows but I don't know how. I've looked at him before. He would be the same generation as my ggg-grandmother Agnes Sparrow. Her father was Thomas Sparrow as well, but I haven't found any connections between the Thomas and Lucy Sparrow family and Agnes and her known siblings. I do know that there is a connection between the Sparrows in Argentia and the ones that were in Burin. The next time I get home to the Archives I'm hoping to go through the Burin RC records to see if I can find anything. Sorry I couldn't help more on this one.

Thanks so much for the info on Margaret's family. Where did Anastasia Lambert/Hunt die? Do you Know anything past Anastasia and James? Anyway I think there was probably a family of Sparrows that originated from Waterford (Which many Placentia Bay families came from), and moved to all parts of Placentia and Fortune Bay's at some point. Thanks Again -Devon

I haven't been able to find anything on James Hunt at all. Only that Anastasia Lambert Hunt died and was buried in Argentia. The graves were moved to Freshwater when the Americans built their base. Her headstone was re-located to the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Freswater in the section for the graves that were re-interred.

My great-great grandmother was Mary Hunt from Argentia. She married Francis Whittle. He may have been from the same area. They had Mary Frances b. 1871(My great grandmother), Rebecca b. 1874, John Thomas b. 1876 & Francis b.1880. There may have been more. Francis was apparently drowned from a fishing schooner sometime between 1880 and 1889. Mary then married George Smith in 1889. She died in Bellevue on Dec. 17, 1904.
I don't have any info. on Mary's parents or brothers and sisters.Would appreciate any info.on this family. Thank You.

Hi Again,

I recently found the marriage of Ellen Stewart and James Hodder. Here it is:

Nov 14 1877,
Married at Fox Cove,
James Hodder and Ellen Stewart,
Wit: William Stewart and Elizabeth Stewart

I was wondering if you had found a William or Elizabeth Stewart in your research, that was from that time frame? If you have then, there would be some kind of connection. Thanks

There probably is a connection there but I haven't been able to figure it out. Fox Cove is now called St. Bernards.

In that time frame you're talking about, my gggrandfather Jonathon Stewart (b abt 1850) was in Langue de Cerf which is just to the south west of St. Bernards. I haven't been able to connect him to any parents yet. His oldest son John was supposed to be born in St. Bernards in 1873, and his other son William (my ggrandfather) was born in Langue de Cerf in 1878.

There was another John Stewart in Langue de Cerf whos the right age to be Jonathons father, he started out in Wreck Cove, moved to Mose Ambrose and then Millers Passage before winding up in Langue de Cerf. I think all the Stewarts in Fortune Bay originate from the one family in Wreck Cove, but I haven't been able to connect them all.
