Around 1800 near Old Perlican, what would be the legal age to be considered an adult? 16, 18, 21? In an 1800 Old Perlican census, I find recorded an "adult male" inhabitant, and, in a 1800 court record, a mother was suing on behalf of her "minor" son.

I’m not sure what the answer is for 1800, but in the 1836 census, people were recorded in 3 categories — under age 14, age 14-60 and age 60+. Suggests to me (just my opinion) that over age 14 weren’t considered dependents, as they would be working in the fishery, etc by that time and contributing to the family.
