so....I've been looking for Mary Wood of Brigus...the 1921 census says she was born in Brigus...so does anyone here know what's up with that?...lol...I use google maps to help me when I'm trying to compare regions or find a town. I read one transcription that suggested Brigus and Brigus South were part of the community, but obviously they aren't close enough...on the brighter side...now I have a whole new region to research!

Brigus South is on the Southern Shore just north of Cape Broyle. A lot of communities in Newfoundland shared the same names and were sometime differentiated by north, south east or west.

...so should I assume that the place of birth on a census listed as Brigus is indeed Brigus and not Brigus South, or should I maybe start searching both communities for what I'm looking for?

It depends upon which District the Brigus is in on the Census. That will tell you which Brigus you are looking for, But usually Brigus in Conception Bay is just called BRIGUS and Brigus South on the Southern Shore is called BRIGUS SOUTH. Hope this helps.
