Hi,

I'm researching my Russell family from the St. John's area of Newfoundland.
My great grandfather was from Nfld and he married a woman from PEI (they married in New Brunswick). My great grandfather was born in 1889 and my great grandmother was born in 1895.
I am unsure as to where or how they met and was hoping that someone could enlighten me as to what the travel between the two islands was like at this time.
It's possible that my g-grandfather was a fisherman in St.John's as he went on to fish in N.B. but I don't know if he would have gone to PEI fishing.
I have a photo of my great grandparents with my g-grandfather's sister, which makes me think that my g-grandmother was in Newfoundland at one point before their marriage.
My great grandmother's mother has listed on the census as being born in newfoundland.

Could anyone tell me how common it would have been to travel between the two islands at this point in time, and what would have lead people to travel.

Many thanks for your help!

Erica
