Hi all, I'm new here so hopefully this is the correct procedure.

I'm searching my grandfathers family. What I know...
- He was Frederick Arthur Wells
- Born about 1883
- Curling, Newfoundland (word of mouth)
- His parents were James and Jane Wells (word of mouth)
- His mothers maiden name was Claire Jane Dowd (on his death certificate)
- He left home at a very early age to become a sailor
- He married Elizabeth Taylor Murray in Pennfield, NB
- He may have had other marriages

I'm very frustrated at not finding any information on a Claire Jane Dowd. This in particular has really stumped me, especially because it's the name on his death certificate. I'm beginning to believe it was given incorrectly. But for now I have to assume it was correct and pursue that lead.

Thank you everyone for any information you may have,
Janet Collick (nee Barry, of Saint George, NB)

Greetings Janet,

Here is Frederick's birth information. Frederic was born on 22 June 1883 in Humber Sound to James and Jane Wells. He was christened on 30 July 1883 in the Humber district in the Bay of Islands minion. James' occupation was fisherman.

Here is the information on possible siblings.
1) George Alfred was born on 29 December 1869 in Bay of Islands to James and Jane Wells. He was christened in the Humber district in the Bay of Islands parish. Denomination was Church of England.
2) John was born on 7 October 1870 in Birchy Cove to James and Jane Wells. He was christened on 16 October 1870 in the Humber district in the Bay of Islands minion. Denomination was Church of England.

I hope this helps in furthering your research.

Yours in genealogy,
Mark
