My name is Jerry Sehlke and I am searching for information on my wife's great grandfather George VENABLES. I am looking for information on my wife's g-grandfather, George Venables. According to the family bible, George was born to Richard and Elizabeth (Fletcher) Venables on 4 Oct 1847 in St. Johns, Newfoundland (although some information indicates it may have been in Oct 1848). We have no knowledge of his activities/whereabouts, but we presume he remained in/near St. Johns until he emigrated to the U.S., via the Port of Detroit, in 1868.
Relative to my other Canadian branches, I have been researching my mother's WALLIS family from Toronto and from Lambton Co. Ontario, and her Searles family from Alberta. But, of course, I have been doing that through the Ontario and Alberta GenWeb etc sites.
I've really enjoyed looking through the plethora of history and information on the GB website - the webmasters have done an excellent job on this site! And, of course, any assistance in finding more information on George would be greatly appreciated!
