Hi, Just joined and I am truly hoping I can find my family. My Grandfather was Jacob Taylor (1898-1958) and my Grandmother was Nettie Taylor nee Wellman, both are deceased and buried in the Forest Rd. Anglican Cemetery in St. John's. I know nothing of my Grandfather but my Grandmother came from a large family of six siblings (John, Edward, , Hilda, Thomas, Edith and Alice.)
They had two sons Robert Bruce and my Dad, Thomas Clinton. Uncle Bruce married locally and moved to Quebec and my Dad an Ontario girl and left Nfld.
I believe all are deceased. Uncle Bruce had two Children, Janice and Blair, my father had six children and we all live in Ontario.
If anyone can help me locate any living sibling or has any knowledge, etc of my Family please contact me. I am planning on finally visiting NFLD this year and would love to know something about my family history.

Hello, NormaCate, I am just connecting in case we have something in common. My great grandfather (1837-1890) was Jacob Taylor, born in Middle Bight (now part of Conception Bay South). He had a son, also Jacob Taylor, my great uncle (1875-1954), born James Cove (now Jamestown), died Bonavista. There were many Jacob Taylor's, especially around Conception Bay, at that time. Maybe one of these was your grandfather, although I see his marriage record, which I found on this website, says he was from St. John's.

Tracing Taylor ancestry in Newfoundland is very difficult because there were so many, and records are poor. In Conception Bay South, a rectory fire destroyed several decades of 19th century records. There may have been several Taylor families which landed in St. John's or Conception Bay from England. I don't know how much searching you have done, but this website has some information which I turned up in a quick search, including your grandmother's family's 1921 census record, your grandparents' marriage and your grandmother's baptism.

In St. John's you should visit the Provincial Archives at The Rooms. Also, if you happen to go to Conception Bay South, and if you think you might have roots there, stop in at Taylor's Fish Market. You might find someone there who knows about your family.
