I have been researching my family for a number of years now but I have come to a standstill with my great-grandfather.
his name was martin burke of murphy's square st.john's.
he was married to mary anne Kelly.
I have been able to find baptism records of their children at st.patrick's R.C.church, but I have not been able to find where or when he and anne were married.my grandfather fred and his brother leo was raised in mount cashel and both left to serve in the great war. Leo in the newfoundland regiment regiment( he was killed at Beaumont-hamel 1916)and grandfather joined the navy and was in Halifax during the great explosion of 1917.
I remember my father saying he believed the family was from fortune bay area.
any information any of your readers can give me will be of value.
