Hello.
I am new to this so please bear with me!!!
I have recently found out that I have ancestors who emigrated to Newfoundland.

My great, great Uncle Ellis Cornish Watson from Torquay, Devon, England first went over in 1858, he returned to England in 1862(possibly to get married) and went back over in 1865 when he set up a business at Hant's Harbour. In 1870 he purchased a business at L'Anse-au-Loup. He served as Superintendant of Fisheries from 1898-1906. He died in Montreal in 1906. He had a son Robert (1863-1930) who was a prominant figure thoughout his life serving on many Government positions. Robert was also one of the founding members of the FOMOWA Fishing Club.

Ellis's brother James Humphrey Watson joined him in 1869/70. He was a merchant and political figure representing Trinity Bay in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1874/1882 and 1893/1894. He was also a customs inspector at St.Johns. He returned to England in 1904 and died in 1908.

So---are there any Watsons left in Newfoundland or has the name died out. I would be most interested to find anymore on my family history

Celia
