Hello Everyone! My name is Krista Li and I am a historian based in Edmonton, Alberta, though I was born and raised in Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland.
I'm working on a PhD in Newfoundland History and I'm studying the history of the Chinese in Newfoundland prior to Confederation. I'd be happy to hear from anyone who might have Chinese heritage or from anyone who remembers a Chinese business or family from their childhood.
I've collected quite a bit of data on the Chinese in St. John's over the past few years, including comeplete copies of head tax registrations from 1910 to 1949 and a complete copy of the Newfoundland Registration of Trips Abroad from 1906 to 1950. I also have heaps of census data and newspaper clippings which I'd love to share!

I found this note when I was researching today:
Friday, February 19, 1926
The first Chinese woman to arrive in Newfoundland was Mrs. KIM LEE, who came to St. John’s on Feb. 15th.
