Hello everyone in beautiful Newfoudland :D My name is Colleen Kane and I live in beautiful British Columbia, however, I grew up in Cape Breton.
My husband and I have a trip planned for Cape Breton in Aug. it's a surprise 80th birthday for my mother. My mother was adopted by Laura cosgrove and her husband Harold Murray. Laura's father was Nicholas Cosgrove and he was a lighthouse keeper in Placentia Bay. He died in 1913.Laura had a brother Charlie who moved to Halifax. We would like to suprise Ma by bringing her to Newfoundland(she has never been there) and hopefully introduce her to some of the decendents of the loving family who adopted not only her, also 2 other children as well.
We hope to spend a few days exploring the area and then drive over to lawn and visit a very good friend there.
Please if you have any ideas that could possibly help us in our quest to finish Ma's bucket list,we would be forever grateful.
Ma has no idea of the party or of this, it was her greatest joy when she found her real mother living in the next town, they had a wonderful relationship right up to the end.
I can be contacted through this site or directly to my email

jk2970@telus.net

or by phone
(250) 768-2999
call collect if you want to and I'll phone you right back

in my next life I want to be a newfoundlander

Try Canada 411, just put in NL (Newfoundland and Labrador) for the province.

Thank you so much Len, I searched it and there is a lot. I found one in Summerland which is very close to us 1/2 hour away. I was talking to my mother when you posted and she got so excited so wish me luck. she thinks we are just compiling info and sending it to her for her 80th birthday, she doesn't know however that we are going to present this to her in person and take her to newfoundland, hopefully to meet some distant relatives.
I will post again with any info and maybe someone else will have other hints that will help like us in our quest to help finish Ma's bucket list :D
thanks again
colleen
