Hi
I have just started to have a look at the descendants of Maria Battiste who married
henry Lawrence on Sep 28 1871 at Channel Anglican (reel 51 at the Archives).
She was the dau of Sarah KETTLE & John Baptiste/Battiste (my interest is the Kettles)
her father also went by John Baptiste LeBeau (spelt as Libboe, etc) for the first few
children then switched to Battiste as the last name.
When Henry married Maria, they both resided Channel. The witnesses were James
?McGlaughlan, Susan Coffin and Elisha Pike
I have information that Maria Battiste Lawrence died at age 29 yrs, but I haven't
done the burials yet for that time period.

I noticed in the Channel Ang Records that while Henry and Marie were having
their children, there was another Henry Lawrence who had married a Mary Jane
and they had a dau Mary Jane bap Mar 10 1873 at Isle aux Morts. There was also
I think, a William and a Mary? Lawrence having children at the same time but I
didn't copy those out. not sure if they were at channel or Isle aux Morts.

Children of Henry Lawrence & Maria Battiste were
George Samuel Lawrence bap Sep 23 1872 Channel

John William Lawrence bap Feb 21 1876 Channel. He married (1) 1904 to Annie Currie, dau of James Currie and Grace Wadman and then sometime before 1921 Census he remarried to a Maggie.

?Althea Annie Lawrence bap Feb 23 1879 channel

Hi Jill
Thank you for your post and the information.I too have just started
on the Lawrence family line. There has to be a connection between the
Channel Lawrences and the ones from Isle Aux Morts which I am chaseing.
The line I am working with is my wife's of .....Edward....Nicholas....Cecil
and her brother Seward.I am trying to find the parentage of Edward who was born june 1867 and was married to Martha Slade 10 oct 1887.
I have searched both sides of my family line with success but this
has been the hardest project yet. Being in Nova Scotia with few resources on NFL is been a hard struggle.
Any info will be greatly appriciated thank you all

Hi again

don't know if you had this marriage from Vital Stats vol 101 under Burgeo/channel

Aug 15 1884 at Isle aux morts by T P Quinton (Anglican)
Robert Lawerence (sic), 28, bach, Isle aux Morts
Louisa Robinson, 20, spin, Deep Cove
Witnesses: not given.

There are some Lawrence marriages in the earlier marriage records of this volume
You can see the scanned images of it by going to the Family Record Search Pilot
website of the Latter Day Saints. Select "Browse our Records....", then click
on the NL area of the world map that comes up; then scroll down to find Newfoundland
Vital stats 1750s-1893. Click on that, and then select Burgeo, then anglican,
then vol 101 (baptisms and marriages).
Please note that marriages from 1871 to 1879 were lost: the minister drowned and had them with him at the time. Might have been baptisms from 1871 to 1879 as well.
Unfortunately the Channel Ang parish records were not transcribed into the Vital Stats
and are only avail at (1) St Johns archives on Microfilm (2) Corner Brook Library on Microfilm
and (3) at the church itself, St James Anglican, in Channel-Port aux Basques.

You can also find records for Isle aux morts in volume Vital Stats 97 Channel Methodist (records are from 1862), or Volume 98 (Petites Methodist), records are from 1857. Those will also be on the Latter Day Saints website mentioned above. It just takes a while to
figure out how the LDS listed them ,parishwise.

Jill
