Hi all, I am Karlin. I am researching a friend's family tree. I am just a first generation Canadian myself, and I find it very interesting to have family going back many generations in Canada.

In other words, I have none of my own to do so I am doing my friend's history here.

She is a Delaney from Bay Roberts, Grand Banks area, with a family history going back to Ireland many generations ago.

I heard tales of her ancestors "working for the King of Ireland in shipping enterprises and the King would grant them land in Newfoundland for this work". It would be so cool to be able to go all the way back to that time... but probably unlikely, eh?

How early were the first Irish sailors coming to Newfoundland? 1600s? 1700s?

This could be fun!!
