Woodstock

Woodstock is a location on the Topsail Highway about 3km east of Topsail, Conception Bay. It's history dates back to the early 1800's as a popular "rest stop, catering establishment, carriage house" for those journeying out of town (St. John's). The original land grant can be traced to Henry David Wilton. In more recent times, a Woodstock premises (owned by the St. John family) existed, to the rear of the property, but burned to the ground in the 1950's . In the early 1960's, the current premises was established as a partnership venture of the St. John/Johnson families. It is still the location of a popular restaurant known as Woodstock Colonial Restaurant. (s:Craig Peterman)
